EXPORT IMPORT OF MINERALS METALS

(a)the quantum and value of minerals and metals including iron ore exported and imported during each of the last three years and the current year, mineral/metal and country-wise;

(b)whether there is any policy to permit export of minerals only as raw materials and if so, the details thereof indicating name of the minerals identified in this regard;

(c)the percentage of export of minerals vis-a-vis their production in the country;

(d)whether the Government proposes to review the existing EXIM policy of minerals /metals, particularly iron ore and if so, the details thereof;

(e)whether the Government has taken note of illegal export of some minerals, particularly iron ore; and

(f)if so, the details of cases reported in this regard during the said period and action taken by the Government to prevent such incidents? 

 

ANSWER

 (a) As per Statement annexed.

(b) No, Madam.

(c) In 2013-14, approximate percentage of export of iron ore, chrome ore and manganese ore vis-a-vis production was 9.9%, 7.08% and 2.56% (provisional) respectively.

(d) At present there is no proposal to review the existing EXIM policy of minerals/metals.

(e) & (f) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence under the Central Board of Excise & Customs, Department of Revenue has detected some cases of duty evasion in the exports of iron ore by mis-declaration of quantity and value/mis-declaration of iron content and moisture content. After conducting enquiry/investigations, cases have been booked and adjudicated, fine and penalties were imposed said violations as per details given in the chart below:
