ECONOMIC GROWTH IN RURAL AREAS

(a)whether economic growth in the rural areas has been more than the economic growth in the urban areas as revealed by the final report of the National Sample Survey Organisation;
(b)if so, the reaction of the Government thereto;
(c)whether the Government has identified the basic reasons for the said economic growth;
(d)if so, the details thereof;
(e)whether the said growth is nominal; and
(f)if so, the extent to which the said growth is likely to be helpful in making the people of rural areas self-reliant?

(a) to (f): According to the Revised Estimates brought out by the Central Statistical Office (CSO), agriculture forestry and fishing sector has shown a growth rate of 2.8% in 2011-12. The Ministry of Rural Development is implementing major schemes such as Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act(MGNREGA), Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), National Rural Livelihoods Mission/Aajeevika, India Awaas Yojana for the benefit of the rural areas.
