CHILD MORTALITY RATE
(a) whether as per the repon. of the Registrar General of India and a British Medical Journal 2 lahs children aged below five years died in the country in the year 200 alone;
(b) if so, the reaction of the Government thereto;
(c) the percentage of the children who dies in the country vis-a-vis the total number of children bom annually; and
(d) the corrective measures taen proposed to be taen by the Government in this regard?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF HEALTH FAMILY WELFARE (SHRI GHULAM NABI AAD)
(a) Yes.
(b) The Government of India has launched National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) under which the Reproductive and Child Health Programme (RCH) II comprehensively integrates interventions that improve child health and addresses factors contributing to morbidity and mortality.
(c) As per the Sample Registration System (SRS) 2008, published by Registrar General of India (RGI) the under five child mortality rate is 6 per 1000 live birth. This indicates that about 6. of children born alive die before attaining the age of years.
d) The ey components of child health programme which help reduce child morbidity and mortality are as follows: Establishment of Special Newborn Care Units, Newborn Stabiliation Units and Newborn Care Corners at health facilities.
