EDIBLE OILS

(a) whether edible oils including mustard oil, coconut oil and groundnut oil are being exported to other countries including the United States of America and the European countries by the private sector;

(b) if so, the details thereof indicating the quantum of each edible oil exported during each of the last three years and the current year;

(c) whether the quality of edible oils being exported is better than the quality of edible oils being imported for domestic consumption; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

 (a), (b), (c) & (d): A Statement is laid on the Table of the House. STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF THE STARRED QUESTION NO.80 DUE FOR ANSWER ON 02.03.2010 IN THE LOK SABHA.

(a): Export of edible oils has been banned with effect from 17.3.2008. However, from 1.4.2008,the export restriction was lifted in respect of coconut oil (only through Cochin Port) and certain oils produced from minor forest origin. Further, from 20.11.2008, export of edible oils has been permitted in branded consumer packs of up to 5 kgs. subject to a limit of 10,000 tonnes during the next one year. This period has been extended to 30.9.2010. Thus export of edible oils including mustard oil, coconut oil and groundnut oil by the private sector is allowed subject to the above conditions.

(b): The details of total quantities of export of edible oils during the last three years and the current year are annexed.
