SOCIAL SECURITY TO MIGRANT LABOURERS WORKERS

(a) whether a large number of migrant labourers/workers is earning their livelihood by living as labourers/workers in the country;

(b) if so, the number of male and female migrant labourers/workers at present in the country, State-wise;

(c) whether the Union Government has any scheme for providing social security to above labourers/workers; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

 (a) & (b): The Government is aware that migrant workers are earning their livelihood by living as labourers/workers in the country. A Statement showing the number of male and female migrant workers in the country is annexed.

(c) & (d): The Government have enacted the Unorganised Workers Social Security Act, 2008 for providing social security benefits to unorganised workers including migrant workers. The Act provides for constitution of National Social Security Board which shall recommend formulation of social security schemes viz.,life and disability cover, health and maternity benefits, old age protection and any other benefit as may be determined by the Central Government.
