ANSWER

MINISTER OF STATE

IN THE MINISTRY OF JAL SHAKTI

(SHRI RATTAN LAL KATARIA)

(a) Rural water supply is a State subject. Government of India supplements the efforts of States/ UTs for rural water supply by providing financial and technical assistance through the centrally sponsored Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). It is States who plan, approve and implement drinking water supply schemes. Details of drinking water treatment units/ plants are not maintained in this Department.

(b) & (c) The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has carried out environmental quality monitoring including ground water quality highlighting exceeding parameters in 88 industrial clusters under the project ‘monitoring, sampling and analysis of ambient air quality, surface water quality and ground water quality in and around 100 Polluted Industrial Areas (PIAs)’.

As reported by Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), water quality studies in industrial clusters identified by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) have been carried out. The studies indicated that in most of the cases, excess concentration of few chemical constituents including heavy metals like Chromium (Cr), Lead (Pb) and Cadmium (Cd) beyond norms prescribed by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is present.
