INCREASE IN MILK PRODUCTION

Will the Minister of AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE कृषि और कृिक कल्याण मंत्री be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has set a target to double the present income of farmers;

(b) if so, whether 70 per cent of Desi Cows are reared by small and poor farmers in the country, if so, the details thereof including the average milk production of Desi Cows;

(c) whether it is a fact that by increasing the milk production of Desi Cows in the country the target of doubling the income can be achieved;

(d) if so, the reaction of the Government in this regard; and

(e) whether the Government has formulated any scheme to increase the productivity of Desi Cows, if so, the details thereof? 

ANSWER 

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE

(a) to (d) In order to complement and supplement the efforts made by the States to enhance milk production and productivity of bovines and thereby doubling farmers income, Government of India has been implementing following programmes: (a) National Programme for Bovine Breeding & Dairy Development (NPBBDD); (b) Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM); (c) National Dairy Plan-I; (d) National Livestock Mission and (e) Livestock Health and Disease Control (LHDC). More than 71% of farm households are engaged in livestock rearing and dairying activities and by increasing milk production and productivity of bovines targets for doubling income of the farmers engaged in livestock rearing can be achieved. The details of milk production of indigenous cows during 2015-16 is as under:

e) In order to compliment and supplement the efforts made by the State to enhance milk production and productivity of Desi cows, Government of India has initiated Rashtriya Gokul Mission as a part of National Programme for Bovine Breeding and Dairy Development.
