Divyang Initiative

The AIM

The opportunity and the accessibility of the resources for the Social and Economic growth and wellbeing are not equal for Differently Abled People. This issue of prospects and approachability has to be dealt, not only with passion and compassion, but then with practical and productive solutions. These people has to be provided with some special provisions and a favourable atmosphere for their mobility and independence has to be shaped. The Aim is to realize this through various interventions and schemes.

The NAME

Earlier they were addressed as Handicapped. Disabled, Vikalaang, Vikal Chethan etc. which were impolite and pejorative. It was ludicrous when Government of India was officially using a terminology which was derogatory in nature for every administrative purposes. It was so until Sri Narendra Modiji came to power. Sri Modiji offered a novel nomenclature “DIVYANG JAN” which truly sounded positive, progressive and encouraging. This new name was quickly and officially adopted by the government which permeated rapidly into the system and the disabled people were now being officially addressed as “Differently Abled People” .

The STRATEGEM

After Modi ji's arrival, the whole project was revamped and got a face lift. A Strategic Action Plan was devised to expand the whole project throughout the nation encompassing all the districts and Taluks. The list of generic medicines was restructured and most essential; lifesaving drugs were made available at the outlets. The whole product range contains 605 items with 452 generic drugs, 153 surgical and consumables, and further plans to increase the products to 1000.

The PROGRAMME

In Uttara Kannada Constituency we planned and executed special programs for free disbursements of assistive appliances for the Differently Abled Persons through ADIP Scheme and a unique scheme for Physical Aids and Assisted – Living Devices for Senior Citizens through RVY (Rashtreeya Vayoshree Yojana). Both the schemes were implemented by ALIMCO (Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India). Preliminary Camps were held across the constituency for the identification and selection of the beneficiaries. The devices were distributed completely free of cost.
