15 crore farmers will benefit from PM-KISAN: Anantkumar Hegde
Over 15 crore farmers across the country will benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Kissan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Anantkumar Hegde said on Thursday. He was speaking after inaugurating the annual crop campaign at ICAR-KLE Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Mattikoppa village.
Under this innovative scheme, small and marginal farmers with less than two hectares of land will be paid ₹ 6,000 per annum in three equal instalments. This will not only boost the morale of farmers but also go a long way in meeting the cost of various farm inputs, including seeds, he said. He highlighted the technological interventions for improving production and productivity of crops both in both kharif and rabi seasons. He spoke on precision farming even in rain-fed areas and urged farmers to take up cultivation of high value crops such as Teff, Chia and Palmrosa. He asked farmers to take up collection and conservation of the local Marking nut (Semecarpus anacardium Linn) known as ker beeja in Kannada.
